Crazy by Gnarls Barkley has made music history by being the first ever No.1, consisting of download sales alone.

The official chart show, that went out yesterday (Sunday), saw the track strike top spot, but the disc version of the single is not released until today (Monday).

This hasn’t happened before, as it was only last month that they adjusted the way charts are calculated. Previously downloads were only counted if they also had a physical release, but since the change it has enabled download sales to be considered, so long as the physical copies of the single go on sale the following week.

Crazy has been in demand since receiving airplay on several radio stations and by word of mouth over the internet.

The song by Gnarls Barkley, a made-up character and is in reality a collaboration between U.S. hip-hop producer Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and singer Thomas Calloway (Cee-Lo Green).
